The 60-second ad, created by Goodby Silverstein & Partners, aired yesterday during NBC's presentation of the film and TV awards show. It takes inspiration from 2016 sci-fi flick The Arrival and sees Macy cast as a resourceful janitor whose quick thinking saves the day.
There's mass hysteria on earth following the arrival of a spaceship in the desert, which is emitting mysterious messages in the form of huge, symbolic orbs. What does it all mean? With experts working round the clock to decipher the code, it's actually Macy's character who, swigging from his can of Pepsi, puts two and two together and gives the alien interlopers what they came for.
