To mark Macular Week (25 June-1 July) and raise awareness of a degenerative sight condition which affects more people than Alzheimer's in the UK, the Macular Society has released this devastating film.
Created by Don't Panic and directed by Kode Media's Laura Scrivano, the PSA shows the effects of the disease through the eyes of a mother watching her son grow up. Over the course of five years, her sight starts to blur and the characteristic black spot in the centre of her vision appears, growing larger and larger, eventually blotting out much of what she can see. It's a simple but brutally effective reminder of the terrible impact that becoming blind can have on both individuals and families’ lives.
