straight 8, the APA and Cinelab London have come together for 2018's Super 8 industry shootout at the Cannes International Festival of Creativity.
The straight 8 competition is again inviting 20 advertising companies of any kind, from anywhere in the world, to compete at straight 8, with the premiere of their films happening at Cannes in June wth the proceeds from the competition being donated to charty.
Each company will make a film on one roll of super 8mm, entirely in-camera: filming in story order, with no second takes, no editing, no grade or post production and with original soundtracks being delivered 'blind'.

ALL of the films – however they turn out - will be screened for the very first time (even to their makers) at Cinema les Arcades in Cannes on the morning of June 21st.
Entry is limited to 20 companies and they’ll be competing to donate a cash prize to their charities of choice. The winners will be decided by the cinema audience on the day, which will vote for their top three with a fully un-rig-able voting system that, say straight 8, "some countries should take note of".
If you're interested in being one of the competing companies, you need to register your interest for a chance to be included.
“Making a film in one of the hardest ways on Earth, raising money for charity, battling creatively with the rest of the industry and then triumphing, or failing, heroically in front of them, on a massive cinema screen in Cannes... what's not to like?," said Ed Sayer, straight 8's founder. "We can’t wait to see who will brave shootout’s third edition.”
“We are delighted to be part of presenting straight 8 in Cannes again this year," said Steve Davies, chief executive of the APA. "It’s the most exciting and event of the week.”
