To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the iconic Fiat 500, the Italian motor brand called upon British animator-extraordinaire Cyriak to create this surreal spot.

Created by Krow, the film broke at the Geneva International Motor Show, which kicks off today. As part of the Forever Young campaign, the brand will launch its Fiat 500-60th Limited Edition model- available for preorder at the motor show and online, followed by web, radio and TV activations on the dedicated site.

Staying true to Cyriak's surrealist style, the spot is a history-spanning celebration charting technological and social changes from the last 60 years.

We briefly spoke to Cyriak about his inspirations and process:

What was the brief for the film?

The concept was to take vintage film footage of the Fiat 500 and weave it into a retrospective montage to include design and cultural elements of the past 60 years.

Where did your ideas for this ad come from?

As usual with this kind of project, I take my main inspiration from the footage I am using.

What does this ad have in common with your previous work, and how is it different from it?

There is a common theme with my work where I build strange worlds from familiar or limited resources. That certainly applies here, though I have held back on the grotesque imagery that normally appears in my videos. I wasn't sure that would be entirely appropriate in this case!

What are you working on next?

I'm trying to finish writing a book at the moment, although it might be a while before that ever sees the light of day.
