Team Cosmo Düsseldorf and Park Pictures/Soup Film's director Christian Weber muddy the boundary twixt man and machine in Mazda’s Drive Together.
There’s a grand tradition of creative car ads exploiting the idea of the anthropomorphised motor – think Citroen C4 Transformer, directed by Neill Blomkamp in 2004, Danny Kleinman’s Steps, for Lexus in 2013, and Audi Sport Birth, directed by Andrew Proctor in 2015.
And now Mazda has released a spot that parallels human physiology and motor parts – the engine as a human heart, hairs raising on the skin surface become the treads on a tyre, an eye becomes a headlight... etc. It’s a well-crafted tale of “car and driver in perfect harmony”.
