DDB Stockholm’s spot for Swedish electricals retailer Elkjop tells an almost unbearably moving tale of hope for Christmas.
A little boy’s Christmas gift for his cancer-sufferer mother reveals his unspoken wishes for the future in this emotive film sensitively directed by Bacon’s Martin Werner.
It’s one of a series of unusual ads for Elkjop (aka. Elgiganten) which focus on the meaning of gifts that express something about the relationship between the giver and the recipient. The director suggests the approach speaks to “timid Nordic folks” who find it hard to vocalise their feelings.
