Ahead of this summer's World Cup in Brazil, Nike has launched the first leg of its 2014 football campaign with an ad featuring celebrated stars of the game Wayne Rooney, Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Hinged on the fact that there is so much expectation and pressure on the players leading up to the this year's tournament, the players are presented in a focussed light as they prepare for battle on the field.

Ronaldo travels through security at an airport and faces a string of reminders that he's Portugal's biggest star, including a swarm of expectant fans cheering his name.

Neymar receives a hint that he's taken on the most significant shirt number in Brazil's history - 10 - once held by the legendary Pele.

And Rooney dresses in his hotel room before supporting commentry highlight the fact that he is still yet to get on the score sheet at a World Cup, football's biggest stage.

The commercial is directed by Jonathan Glazer and the campaign comes through Wieden+Kennedy Portland. The work plays on the idea that big risks can equal big gains and embraces pressure to perform at your best.

“We watch football for those unexpected moments of brilliance in large part because they inspire us to attempt our own. Those moments awaken inside us all the realisation that we too can achieve the impossible," says Davide Grasso, Nike's chief marketing officer. "This film embodies that sentiment and reminds players in every country at every level: If you are prepared to Risk Everything, there’s no telling what you can do.”

The brand unveiled England's new home and away kits earlier this week, the former of which Rooney sports in the ad and below.
