Vending Machines Get Chatty with Georgia’s New App

Ever wished your vending machine was a bit more friendly? Well it could be your new best friend thanks to an unusual app that’s taking Japan by storm.

The My Favourite Café app, masterminded by Dentsu Inc. and Coca-Cola Japan, is the first "vending machine personification system" designed to turn an impersonal vending machine into your favourite place to grab a coffee.

The app uses Geo-Fencing technology that registers when you are nearby and sends messages to your smartphone to encourage you to get a Georgia coffee and makes friendly chit-chat while you do. The more often you use the vending machine, the closer your relationship becomes – just like at your local coffee shop!

While it may sound a little bizarre, it seems to be working as Georgia has reported that since the app was launched 68.5 per cent of its fans feel more attached to the brand, and 41 per cent visit a vending machine more often now.

So, the next time you’re in Japan make sure you pay a visit to a Georgia vending machine - it could be the start of a beautiful friendship.
