During a recent weekend in early February, basketball’s superstars descended on The Smoothie King Centre, home of the New Orleans Pelicans for a weekend of basketball-related events, exhibitions and performances all culminating in an all-star game.

While all eyes were fixed on the big guns, players from a local school, The Riverdale ‘Rebels’ were locked into a game with Ben Franklin High, another nearby team.

During the second half of proceedings a crew of Gatorade workers converted the once drab Rebels’ dressing room – which hadn’t been updated since the 70s – into a dazzling suite worthy of any NBA team, with the Rebels none the wiser.

Coming in after the tough tie, the players were not only greeted by their impressive new surroundings, but to top things off, NBA superstar Dwayne Wade, who was in town for the all-star event made an appearance to offer some advice and perform a routine huddle with the youngsters.

The Rebels were chosen by Gatorade for being on the brink of playoff qualification for the first time in two decades.
