Brilliantly expressing a similar kind of psychological discomfort he portrayed in his career-defining role in 2000 thriller Memento, the actor stars in this fantastic portrait of mental unease directed by Us, through Academy Films.
Using a low-resolution surveillance-style footage from a pesky drone, the camera’s eye follows a shambolic, bath-robed Pearce around his disgracefully messy abode – check out the laundry area – as the song’s sweet strains belie the troubled lyrics, “nowadays I get panicked, I cease to exist…”
The song first appeared in a 1998 documentary, Meeting People Is Easy, about the band’s uneasy times following the runaway success of their album OK Computer. It has appeared in live sets since then and now this official studio version is featured on the new reissue, Kid Amnesiae, which compiles outtakes and alternate versions from the Kid A and Amnesiac sessions.
