Each year the Young Director Award serves up a helping of bold, creative new talents looking to break into the advertising arena and beyond... and 2024 is no different.

Now in its 27th year, this most prestigious of new talent shows [if we do say so ourselves] returns to the Cannes Lion week with another slew of upcoming directorial talents, and the shortlisted work for this year's event has just been announced.

Work from across the world, and covering a multitude of categories, was entered and has been carefully whittled down by the YDA's international selection of jury members. That same jury, led this year by Academy Films' Joint MD/Partner/EP, Medb Riordan, will have, in the weeks ahead, the even greater challenge of selecting this year's winning work.

The YDA ceremony, at which the winning work will be screened, takes place on June 20th in Cannes, at the Cinema Olympia. A shots-sponsored breakfast at 9.30am will help ease you into the morning after the night before, ahead of the screening at 10.30.

"Each year the YDA receives an amazing amount of work from directors from all corners of the world. It's not just the quantity which continues to amaze us, though, but the diversity of that work," said Francois Chilot, the President of the YDA. "From animation, to live-action, branded content to series, documentaries to charity campaigns, the breadth of work is remarkable, and testament to the evolution of what was once, too simplistically I would say, referred to as 'advertising'. This work is much more than that, and the jury has already had a tough time in creating the shortlist, with tougher conversations ahead to find this year's winners."

Tickets for the YDA screening are available here.
