You can’t pick a greatest football player of all time
Spot directed by Taylor Twist through A Fresh Face In Hell.
A new 30-second film from adidas and agency Opinionated poses a question, Who is the greatest football player of all time? and invites football players Patrick Mahomes and Trevor Lawrence, alongside basketball stars Candace Parker, Aliyah Boston and Donovan Mitchell, to all weigh in.
Here’s the thing about soccer in America: even though it's by far the most popular sport on the planet, and one American team is indisputably the best in the world, football 'American football' remains America’s number one sport. And basketball is a close second.
With the FIFA Women’s World Cup quickly approaching, adidas wanted to highlight this tension in a fun, positive way by showcasing how our football (and basketball) athletes are huge fans of women’s soccer, and agree that their back-to-back World Cup championships and run for an unprecedented third, ensure they are the best “football” players of all time.

“It has been an incredible year for sport and to mark this milestone we brought some of our greatest athletes together to show support for soccer and the incredible players we will celebrate on the pitch this summer,” said Chris Murphy, SVP Brand Communications at adidas.
adidas’ soccer athletes highlighted include: Alana Cook, Lindsey Horan, Casey Murphy, Trinity Rodman, Ashley Sanchez, Becky Sauerbrunn, Andi Sullivan and Emily Sonnet.
The film was directed by Taylor Twist and debuted during the NBA Finals. It will continue to air in broadcast and digital leading up to the start of the FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament. The film’s athletes were shot in their hometown stadiums or locations special to them.
This is Opinionated’s second adidas project this year, in February, they celebrated Patrick Mahomes’ incredible sports journey and how the now two-time MVP serves as living, breathing proof that Impossible Is Nothing in The Original Impossible.
