The cancellation of the 2020 Cannes Lions meant that the Young Director Award, which usually takes place during the festival, had to alter its plans.
But, rather than abandon this year's YDA completely, it was decided that the show must go on and that, around it, bolstering the event, would be talks and presentations, the first of which you can see above.
Justin Reardon started life on the agency side and, early in his career, was one of the creatives who worked on the iconic Budweiser Whassup campaign. His aim was always to be a director and eventually he moved to LA and followed that particular path. He's shot for brands including Heineken, Samsung, Axe, Gillette, VW, AT&T and more, and has also directed a feature film, Playing it Cool, starring Chris Evans.
In the first of a series of 1-to-1 interviews across this week, Reardon talks about his career, his path into the business, the obstacles for aspiring young directors and how to traverse them, the use of humour in advertising, and much more.
Below you can see the schedule for the rest of the YDA Week 2020 content.
