Director Wim Wenders has established himself as a pioneer of German Cinema in the Seventies; he is today one of the most important representatives of an independent World Cinema. In addition to his directorial skills, he has also excelled as a producer, photographer and writer and has successfully directed numerous films for brands such as Ferragamo, Jil Sander, UBS Stella Artois and Barilla.

Wenders' remarkable works have earned him the Cannes Film Festival’s Palme d’Or for his movie Paris, Texas, the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for The State of Things, and he won best director at the Cannes Film Festival for Wings of Desire. He has also been nominated three times for the Academy Awards for his films Buena Vista Social Club, Pina, and The Salt of the Earth. More recently his documentary Anselm premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and his film Perfect Days celebrated its world premiere in competition at the festival and won the Best Actor award for Koji Yakusho as well as the Ecumencial Jury Prize.

To preserve and disseminate Wenders' extensive body of work, the Wim Wenders Foundation was established in Düsseldorf in 2012. Through this non -profit foundation, Wenders' cinematic, photographic, artistic, and literary works are restored, curated and made permanently accessible to the public.
