From the opening seconds of Venables Bell + Partners hilarious new commercial for mandarin-sellers Peelz, you know that our hapless protagonist, John Birk, is going to be an entertaining subject.
Playfully dealing with the subject that citrus fruit doesn't really need explaining - as the ad clearly points out; "you peel them, then you eat them." - the film entertains through the enjoyably familiar idiocy of its mockumentary hero and, as a key addition, a choir of voices chastising his choices.
Directed by Steve Mapp in VB+P's in-house production arm Lumberyard, this unapologetic slice of entertainment utilises a cracking lead actor, a smart script and some neat comedic editing to achieve a sweet treat that's more than the sum of its segments.
