The true meaning of Christmas – the power of community and coming together, as embodied by the true story of Milton Keynes couple Marguerita and Albert who have fostered more than 200 children in almost 50 years – is the heart of a new festive ad from online retailer Very.co.uk.

Fronted by Spice Girl Emma Bunton and created by London-based independent agency St Luke’s, the ad shows a Christmas surprise when the couple attend a surprise gathering filled with family, friends and the foster community they have been at the heart of for decades – hosted by Very, the online destination for thoughtful and inspired gifting.

After seeing that Very was on the lookout for unsung community heroes who deserved a Very special Christmas treat, adopted daughter Sam got in touch to tell her parents’ amazing story. Very is now campaigning for Marguerita and Albert to receive MBEs for services to the community for their incredible fostering achievements.

A Very Special Surprise is part of Very’s #LoveGiving strategy which is all about what Christmas means beyond presents. The film will appear on TV and online through to end December.

Andrew Roscoe, Head of Brand at Very, said: “We felt that Emma was just a brilliant fit to help us land this Very special surprise as she has a strong emotional connection with family life.”

Emma Bunton added: “As a mum of two children myself, hearing Marguerita and Albert’s story; I couldn’t help but get involved to bring all the lives they’ve touched together. It was a magical day.”
