It's rare that Super Bowl spots are launched with anything less than an overwhelming fanfare, so part of the reason CeraVe's 'Super Bowl-winning' spot has garnered such goodwill is undoubtedly down to its stealth launch.
It started simply with comedy star Michael Cera being photographed with CeraVe products in New York, leading to a multifaceted marketing campaign involving influencers, a staged walkout during a podcast interview, and culminating in a Super Bowl commercial, marking a surprising collaboration for the typically reserved actor and the understated skincare brand.
Directed by Tim & Eric through Prettybird, and developed by Ogilvy North America, Michael CeraVe plays heavily into the unexpected collab between star and product; the surreal image of Cera massaging himself being one of the Big Game's most enticing moments.
