Would Jaws have been scarier if its shark had squeaked? Would The Silence of the Lambs still be chilling if Hannibal Lecter were a teddy bear? Would Alien be as horrifying if the xenomorph were a rubber chicken?

Those are the adorable questions asked and answered in CUTE CULTE, the opening title sequence for the Young Director Awards, created by French production company Wilders.

Conceived and directed by Benjamin Marchal and Nicolas Duval using CRAIZY, Digital District’s suite of AI-powered creative tools, the film is both an Adam and Joe-esque tribute to cinema and a deliciously detailed visual quiz for those wishing to identify each scene.

The Young Director Award is presented in Cannes on Thursday 25 June, beginning with a shots-sponsored breakfast outside Cinéma Olympia from 9.30am, followed by the Winners’ Screening at 10.30am.

The celebrations continue from 7pm at Belle Plage, with drinks, awards and a beach party recognising the year’s emerging directing talent.

To get tickets, visit the YDA website; a screening ticket also grants access to the evening event, although entry is subject to venue capacity.
