Clouds are cottonwool; a bed is a lifesaving raft floating on seas full of jellyfish fashioned from surgical supplies – this lovely project shows how imagination and great design can turn medical woes into magical escapes.

Co-created by Havas Geneva, Behind The Curtain is a workshop concept launched by the Theodora Foundation, which has been working with Swiss hospitals since 1993 aiming to improve children’s experiences of being hospitalised.

Directed by Luke & Joseph, and produced by UNIT9 Films, the Behind the Curtain documentary reveals how the Foundation’s artists, The Giggle Doctors, work with young patients to help them find escape from their stressful realities. Within the documentary, the lovely film Rosie and The Rainbow, reveals the fruits of the workshop.

Young patients from Lucerne paediatric hospital and the Vaud University Hospital Center came up with a story of Rosie and a menacing entity called The Nothing, who steals all the colours of the rainbow.

With the hospital curtain acting as the gateway to an imaginary watery world, the story follows the plucky patient Rosie as she embarks on a quest to retrieve the colours from five enchanted worlds.
