The Sweetshop London unveils new leadership pairing
Morgan Whitlock is promoted to Managing Director and is joined by Executive Producer Lucy Powell.
The Sweetshop kicks off 2024 with two key appointments in its London office.
Morgan Whitlock is promoted to Managing Director and the company welcome Executive Producer Lucy Powell, forming a dynamic leadership team poised for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
With 12 years of experience at The Sweetshop, Whitlock is perfectly placed to lead the UK office through its ongoing evolution. Powell, previously Head of Production with Havas London and Sky Creative, brings a unique perspective, blending her rich experience of agency production and as the founder of the Advertising Freelancers Association in London.
This change in leadership aligns with The Sweetshop's commitment to staying ahead of industry trends. The company is cultivating a new generation of directorial talent while continuing its recent development of award-winning Entertainment and long form production. The Sweetshop has been an industry leader in the growing shift towards an ethical production model, contributing to the development of sustainable and inclusive practices across the industry.
CEO Melanie Bridge expressed her excitement about the new leadership, stating, "We can’t believe we have found someone so perfect to run the ship alongside Morgan. Both Morgan and Lucy have the most incredible skills to bring to the table. Together, they are dynamite."
“Morgan’s work in driving change to create a more representative and inclusive industry has been an important pillar in our path towards B Corp certification. To have someone alongside him with the values and energy of Lucy, who has worked tirelessly on behalf of the freelance production community to create a more equitable industry, will undoubtedly help us continue to be at the forefront of a better way of working.”
Whitlock shared his admiration for Powell, stating, “I’ve admired Lucy for a long time, getting to know her when we were both juniors in the industry and being in awe but not at all surprised by her success. We’re incredibly privileged to have her join our team.”
Powell, commenting on her new role, said, “I couldn’t be happier to be joining a company with two of my core values at its heart. The commitment to fairness and craft at The Sweetshop is inspiring. Morgan and I got on brilliantly as industry juniors who shared a common perspective. I’ve always enjoyed his passionate approach to film craft and laughing over his delightfully absurd tales about the industry.”
Together, Whitlock and Powell are set to guide The Sweetshop's London office into a new chapter, promising a blend of experience, innovation, and shared values.
