This anarchic music video for new single Pushing Up Daisies is the second instalment in a trio of promos directed by Tearjerker for The Academic’s new album, Sitting Pretty, and the sixth collaboration between the duo and band.
The video, produced through Great Guns, stars a gang of masked robbers who burst into a dreary betting shop. As the thieves smash windows, assault employees, and set off explosive dye-packs, the band stays focused on their bets and pay no attention to the chaos around them.
Shot in an abandoned electricity board in Bethnal Green, the team built a bookies set from scratch, leaning on the expertise of production designer Ben Clark. The film was inspired by iconic movies of the heist genre such as Snatch, The Town, and Uncut Gems, and is interspersed with footage of real-life robberies caught on CCTV.
