The Den Editorial opens their doors in Los Angeles
The two long-time friends and colleagues Duggan and Jordan have a passion for, and commitment to, creating stellar work, building talent and focusing on diversity within the industry.
Editor of award-winning work for clients including Amazon, GEICO, and Hulu, Christjan Jordan, has partnered with industry veteran Mary Ellen Duggan to launch The Den, an independent boutique editorial house.
The two long-time friends and colleagues have a passion for, and commitment to, creating stellar work, building talent and focusing on diversity within the industry. “We want to surround ourselves with a community of hardworking, goodhearted, and talented people. We hope everyone who walks in the door feels that same vibe,” says Christjan.
Mary Ellen’s bi-coastal career has included heading production departments at both KPB and Cliff Freeman on the East Coast, and most recently The Big Family Table in Los Angeles. In addition, she has freelanced all over the country and won numerous awards for her epic productions.
Christjan has worked with Arcade Edit, Cosmo Street, and Rock Paper Scissors, among others. Frequently found editing with his dog Ziggy on his lap, Christjan’s oft-viral work features numerous standouts, including Alexa Loses Her Voice, for Amazon; Longest Goal Celebration Ever, for GEICO; and #notspecialneeds for World Down Syndrome Day, out of Publicis NY. His accolades span Cannes Lions, AICE, AICP, Clio, D&AD, One Show, and Sports Emmy awards.
Two of the most talked-about ads from Super Bowl 2020 come to us courtesy of Christjan’s expert cutting skills. Hulu’s first Big Game ad in eight years to feature celebrity talent, Tom Brady’s Big Announcement, had fans of the 42-year-old quarterback contemplating his possible retirement. Walmart’s Big Game debut, Famous Visitors, showcased the big box store’s offer of out of this world convenience through curbside pickup.
The Den’s founding roster also features editor Andrew Ratzlaff. A remarkable talent who has cut many high profile comedy spots, Andrew has worked alongside Christjan previously. Says Andrew, “I’m thrilled to be joining The Den because I’ll be working with some very talented people who support the work and one another in a big way. There’s also something exciting about being included on the ground floor. It becomes about more than just editing - it’s about building a culture, establishing a presence and creating an environment that allows for creativity to flourish.”
Also joining the team is Junior Editor Hannelore Gomes, an up-and-coming superstar whose passion for the craft excites the seasoned professionals. “Hannelore is a pure joy to be around,” says Mary Ellen. The Den will be adding more renowned editors to their roster over the next few months. “We’ve been talking to a number of amazing talent and we are excited about the prospect of their joining our roster in the upcoming months.”
Rachel Seitel, another maven of the industry, has joined as Partner and Head of Business Development. The Den will be represented by Diane Patrone at The Family on the East Coast, and on the West Coast by Ezra Burke and Shane Harris.
