In a year filled with uncertainty and that has seen all kinds of major festivals and award shows being postponed indefinitely, scaled down to the bare minimum or outright cancelled.

It’s a pleasure to see that signs of recovery are slowly starting to appear, with the Golden Lion International Advertising Awards, one of the largest events of its kind in China, moving forward with its 4th edition next Tuesday.

The Awards, which were originally planned for March, are going ahead with their spirit and original plans almost completely intact after long months of planning and hard work.

2020 is the first year for the Awards to have been officially announced as an international event, open to submissions from all over the world. This reflects the current interest of many advertisers, creatives and agencies that are looking to China as a market filled with plenty of opportunities for sharing talent and expertise and that has yet to reach its full potential.

The Golden Lions Awards Ceremony will be held on July 21st at the Shanghai Bellagio. The ceremony will be a live event (a rare luxury in 2020 that the Golden Lions are hoping to make the most of), with a large part of the guests in attendance at the venue and with several more people participating remotely via different online components such as the voting for the Audience Choice Award and the live broadcast of the ceremony itself, which will be available on the Golden Lion’s official WeChat account.

This year’s live broadcast has been named “Golden Lions Engage” to reflect that more than a mere recording of the event, it will be an interactive showcase where the juries of the Awards and the different winners will share and discuss the stories behind the best video advertising pieces of the year (the Golden Lions are exclusively focused on video ads.) It will also be a space to reflect on the challenges that the industry has faced this year as well as on the ones that are yet to come.

Regrettably, because of the different travel restrictions in place, this year’s ceremony won’t have as many international guests as it was expected, but the Golden Lions are inviting everyone to participate online and join the celebration.
