Stadium signs Curry Tian for US representation
The multidisciplinary artist and director has created work for brands including Mercedes-Benz, Chanel, Beats and L’Oréal.
Multidisciplinary artist and director Curry Sicong Tian has signed with Stadium for US commercial representation.
Tian pairs an understanding of performance, design and human emotion with technical expertise to create immersive worlds across automotive, tech, beauty and luxury.
In 2020, Tian wrote, directed, edited and animated her breakout short Simulacra. The six-minute experimental film about an elderly Buddhist nun took home gold at the Student Academy Awards. Simulacra is a Latin word often used to refer to 'statues', an apt title for an artist who creates surreal worlds that feel as tactile as sculpture.
Born in Shijiazhuang, Tian studied visual communication at Tsinghua University in China. Impassioned by her philosophy of being a 'lifelong learner', she enrolled in USC's animation and digital arts MFA programme, subsequently launching her career as a freelance 3D artist at studios including The Mill, Elastic and Imaginary Forces.
“My foundation as an artist has roots in design, photography, writing, film and even journalism,” says Tian. “3D VFX felt like the most natural way to connect all of those influences. I see my films as a canvas to visualize a character’s imagination and inner thoughts.”
Directing frequently across the US and APAC markets, Tian has worked with Mercedes-Benz, Chanel, Beats, L’Oréal and Canon. She often creates previs for her spots ahead of production and art-directs much of her CG herself. Her Chinese heritage remains at the heart of her work, bridging Eastern and Western techniques and visual inspiration.
“There’s a pulse behind the pixels in her work, and she’s carved out a lane on our roster that’s entirely her own,” says Stadium managing executive producer Seng Rimpakone. “My early conversations with Curry weren’t about film or tech. They were about theatre and performance. She spoke of Robert Wilson, Dimitris Papaioannou, Pina Bausch, Peter Greenaway and the architecture of Rem Koolhaas. I was blown away by her understanding of the arts and how she has a silver-bullet reference for just about every board. We couldn’t be more excited to celebrate her craft on our roster.”
“Our agency and brand partners are asking for artists with a distinct point of view now more than ever,” says Stadium founder and CEO Samy Mosher. “With my own Indonesian roots, I know how important it is to see AAPI creatives leading the work. Curry brings an artist’s eye, AI know-how and a truly global perspective, and we’re excited to amplify her voice for our partners everywhere.”
Tian becomes the 17th director to join Stadium's roster as the company continues its expansion.
