What do you get if you combine drug-induced hallucinations, some unconventional recordings and an impromptu train station dance routine?

No, not the ingredients for the BEST WEEKEND EVER, but instead some of the delights that entertained the Los Angeles audience of our latest Presents showcase.

Again taking place in the magnificent Archlight Santa Monica, shots Presents saw a gigantic crowd of LA adland’s movers-and-shakers gather together to watch a 50-minute bespoke showcase of some of the world’s most talented unsigned filmmakers.

Specially selected from Source's Scout pages - itself a shots-curated repository of fledgeling talent - the collection featured such treats as Talia Shea Levin’s hypnotic and emotionally charged E T A, Graham Parkes’ 4th-wall breaking laugh-fest Craig’s Pathetic Freakout and Getting In A Van Again from Jonny Look, a mockumentary that somehow almost convinces you that music sounds better when played through soup. The evening provoked the laughter and tears promised by host Jamie Madge in his intro.

But that’s not all! Once the screening had finished and tears of joy and woe were wiped away, the party moved on to Margarita Mix who, for the 4th year running, played host and sponsor to the after-party to end all after parties.

To see so many faces from agency and production life gather into one place to support and nurture filmmakers at the start of their career is really what Source and shots are about - connecting the industry.

With floor-filling tunes from the excellent Yessian Music and the incredible facilities at MM providing a chance for people to check out their favourite films again on a loop, the evening saw fresh-faced filmmakers and industry insiders make merry well into the early hours.

"I couldn't be happier with how the Presents show has grown in LA," says shots/Source MD James Straker. "To see so many faces from agency and production life gather into one place to support and nurture filmmakers at the start of their career is really what Source and shots are about - connecting the industry."

"Coupled with the excellent after-party put on be Margarita Mix and Yessian, we couldn't really hope for a better way to celebrate our Los Angeles membership base. Plus, I thought this year's selection might have been the best yet!"
