shots is incredibly sad to announce that the former Deputy Editor of shots, and a longtime contributor to the publication, Selena Schleh, died earlier this week.

Selena, who was 44, was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2025 and was admitted to Pilgrims Hospice in Margate, Kent, on the afternoon of 15th September. She died, surrounded by her loved ones, on the evening of Tuesday 16th September. She leaves behind her husband, James, and five-year-old daughter, Iris.
Selena began working at shots in 2015, starting as the publication’s Features Editor before quickly becoming Deputy Editor. She oversaw countless profiles and features for the magazine and website, as well as being an integral part of the editorial vision for the brand. In 2019 Selena left shots to return to education, where she studied speech therapy, before returning to the shots fold a few years later as a valued freelance contributor.
Despite being unlucky at every turn of the disease, Selena retained her remarkable strength, grace, positivity, wit and humour throughout, even as a rare mutation of the disease – which only affects five per cent of breast cancer victims – spread to other parts of her body, robbing her of her sight and energy.
“It’s not too often you interview someone for a role and know, almost immediately, that they’re exactly the person you’ve been looking for,” said Danny Edwards, shots Co-Editor. “Selena was that rare combination of intelligence, insight and enthusiasm, allied with being a great writer, a great interviewer, and someone who was warm, funny and great company. It was a pleasure and a privilege to work alongside her.”
“Selena was an extraordinary individual,” added Carol Cooper, shots Features Editor. “At some point this summer, I popped round to see her for a cuppa (which she always made exactly how I like it) and it happened to be lunchtime. I wasn’t expecting lunch from a woman with terminal cancer, suffering a range of horrible symptoms. But there it was – a table set in her garden with lovely crockery, and a tasty, nutritious meal waiting to be served. Everything she did was done with care, consideration, bags of class and beauty. She was not only a beauty inside and out, but had an eye for it. But, best of all, she was always fine, witty company; over lunch, at work, during freezing Margate dips and, latterly, even in hospital. The world is a lesser place without her.”
