The international advertising film award for film school students and young talents from the industry received a total of 178 submissions from 18 countries this year.

That was almost twice as many as for the last edition of the competition in 2019. Using an online voting system, the jury has now agreed on twelve nominations in three categories for the Porsche Awards. Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg (FABW) will be organising the awards for the seventeenth time, and the main sponsor is Porsche AG.

The three award categories were revised and renamed for the new competition. In the Short Advertising Content category, the three films that impressed the jury most were Factory of Dreams and Tight Frame from Poland, and the Filmakademie entry Great Ideas from Germany.

In the Long Advertising Content category, only the film Still Got It from the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne prevented a FABW clean sweep. The other four nominated films Josh & Jacob, Get Married Again, Revived and Made for Hoomans were all produced in Ludwigsburg.

In the third category Driven by Dreams, a film from New Zealand made it to the shortlist for the first time with the government campaign Keep it Real Online – Pornography. That film is joined by Absent from England, Don’t Worry from the University of Television and Film in Munich and Weird Search Requests from FABW.

As always, the eight-strong jury is made up of experts from the international advertising film industry. The jury members were impressed by the high artistic and technical quality of the submitted films, as well as the breadth of content covered by the submissions, ranging from traditional advertising films to Instagram campaigns and social spots. This year’s jury members are:

  • Karina Taira, Director, Paris and Milan
  • Daniel Huntley, News Editor shots, London
  • Shai Caleb Hirschson, Creative Managing Director of MassiveMusic Germany, Berlin
  • Lyndy Stout, Editor 1.4, London
  • Oliver Hoffmann, Director Marketing Communications, Porsche AG, Stuttgart
  • Judy Hill, Executive Producer Nexus Studios, London, L.A., Sydney
  • Stuart Harris, Head of the Directing Commercials Course and Co-Head of the Cinematography MA Course at the National Film and Television School, Beaconsfield
  • Noé Baruchel Dominati, Executive Producer Phantasm, Paris

The jurors will also decide who walks away the winners at the award ceremony on 13th July 2021. The winner in each category will receive a trophy and prize money of €4,911. Whether the ceremony takes place in Ludwigsburg with an audience, as a hybrid event, or as a purely online event will depend on how the COVID-19 situation develops.
