We hear from the Blink director Jack Brown about his instagram Dm's, the future of MTV and some great animated videos.
What’s the best music video you’ve seen recently and why?
Look, we all know that Cash in Cash Out by François Rousselet is the craziest music video released recently...
But I didn’t get where I am today by being obvious so I’m going to opt for a lesser known vid that really got me going so, The Chats - 6L GTR directed by Marco Imov. It’s just really rad.

And what’s your all-time favourite music video?
This question has genuinely stressed me out. My favourite thing when done well in a music video, obvious as it may be, is dancing. So if we’re talking dance moves there really is no contest, Fatboy Slim ft Bootsy Collins - Weapon of Choice directed by Spike Jonze.

What other directors/artists do you look to for inspiration?
If we’re talking animation, I’m lucky enough to share a studio (when they actually come in) with a couple of inspirational legends.
Nicos Livesey has made some brain melting music vids, Elliot Dear with his stunning, emotional ads that have made me cry more than the ending of Donnie Darko (favourite live action film) and Becky & Joe who are making television history with Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared (now streaming and broadcasting on Channel 4).
What are you listening to at the moment?
Amyl and the Sniffers, Little Simz, Vince Staples, L’Imperatrice, Danny Brown, Smino, Viagra Boys, Knucks and Nancy Sinatra.
What’s your favourite bit of tech, whether for professional or personal use?
Boom speaker.

What artist(s) would you most like to work with and why?
A screenshot of my instagram DMs would probably be a better way of answering this.. But right now it’d be a toss up between Jay Z and Pharrell. They are both my idols growing up and have both made killer animated music videos.
How do you feel the promo industry has changed since you started in it?
It definitely feels like there’s more money for music videos, it may be just personal experience but with the rise in views over lockdown I think labels and artists are seeing the value in making good looking videos. There’s also just a lot more MV’s generally out there for that same reason, they call it “content”.

Where do you see the music video industry being in five years’ time?
Maybe music videos will all be 15 second TikTok’s that we inject directly into our eyes. Better case scenario there will be a new MTV where people can just sit and watch music videos all day and get inspired.
Tell us one thing about yourself that most people won’t know…
Recently my dog did her 3rd poo of the walk and I didn’t have any bags left so I just put a big stick on top of it.
