Directed by Ludovic Houplain, this new animated short, called, My Generation, is a hypnotic journey through different worlds.
During an eight minute travelling shot we pass through a variety of thematic landscapes, each populated by recognisable, sometimes iconic signifiers. There's the contemporary art vista, a sports landscape, religion, pornography, politics, finance, sacred cows, surveillance. Each, the film infers, opiums of the people.
Although the film depicts modern alienation (" a lobotomised society with the need for intensive care", says the director), there is no moral judgment, just a clinical detachment, and the film's pop art top coat belies the content's dark undertones.
My Generation has been selected for numerous festivals (Annecy, Zagreb, Athens, Stuttgart, Seoul) and is the fruit of an artistic collaboration between French producer and songwriter, Mirwaïs, and Houplain.
Stay tuned for an upcoming interview with Ludovic Houplain about the making of the film.
