Silence may well be golden, but much like the precious metal, its scarcity is what makes it valuable.

That is fine for everyday life, yet if you're trying to test and measure the sounds produced by Surface Laptop products you need a bit more than 'mostly quiet', as director Josh Goldsmith's lovely little film for Microsoft goes to show.

Taking us on a tour through One of the quietest rooms on Earth, the film captures the extreme lengths taken to create an 'anechoic chamber', a room designed to prevent any echoes; with every element of the room, from the mesh flooring to the cones covering the walls, intentionally designed to prevent sounds from echoing, resulting in a space that is quieter than the human capacity for hearing.

Produced through Milli in Seattle, the short offers a captivating view of a unique environment; Goldsmith skirting the line between the strange beauty of the design and the tech insights behind it.
