Is there a greater in-camera special effect than identical twins? You can keep your gen AI clones and nifty split-screen - the real 'uncanny' happens when our eyes see genuine double trouble.
Using this concept and giving it a number of joyfully playful twists is Droga5's new work for Microsoft, its first focusing on the Windows brand. Taking place in a quiet library, Doppelmode showcases the split personality of a humble laptop; being used as both work tool and gaming platform.
Conducting the dupes is ProdCo director Mackenzie Sheppard, who zips the camera around some neatly choreographed scenarios to create a film with genuine tactility whilst skirting the surreal.
"Making this film was a carefully orchestrated exercise in choreography and in-camera craft," explains Cristina Reina, Chief Creative Experience Officer, Droga5 NY & the Americas:
"Pulling everything off practically, with a massive cast of 25 sets of identical twins, was no small challenge. In the end, we captured the energy and fun of students' dual lives, their constant movement between work and play - while showing how Windows 11 PCs can help keep both worlds in sync."
