Mercado Pago buys a devalued Bored Ape and names it as its new spokesperson
Devalued NFT stars in a new campaign created with GUT Mexico City which kicks off with short animated film.
Mercado Pago, the leading internet payment platform in Latin America, together with GUT Mexico City, announce that it has bought the devalued Bored Ape NFT to serve as the “spokesperson” for its new campaign, designed to highlight the importance of investing intelligently and safely, which is possible thanks to Mercado Pago.
The campaign references how NFTs promised to revolutionise the market in 2021, only for many people to discover that NFTs lost value over time. To introduce the new Spokesperson, the “Bored Ape” campaign kicks off with a short animated film featuring the Bored Ape driving a convertible past a sunny city skyline, addressing the audience: “Hi, I’m a Bored Ape. Mercado Pago bought me, and now I’m the only NFT in the world that keeps making money. How? I invested my money in Mercado Pago.”
“We bought a devalued Bored Ape because we feel that it is just the right celebrity to tell people that investing can be cool, but it also has to be profitable,” said Guido Donadio and Sebastián Regiani from GUT Mexico City. “As our new ‘spokesperson’ introduces himself in our playful short film, we are taking a fun approach to empowering people to make better financial decisions.”
“We are excited to debut our Bored Ape campaign, which brilliantly illustrates the volatility and unpredictability of fashion investments, while demonstrating how Mercado Pago offers safe and profitable investment opportunities,” said Nathalia Teixeira, from Mercado Pago.
