Much like you can't trust a skater with a scuff-free deck, an artist with a pristine palette or a gig-goer with boxfresh Converse, you can't really call a pickup a pickup unless it's a little 'worn in'.
Taking this idea to its extreme is the mud-loving protagonist of Go Break It In, AMV BBDO's new spot for Ford's new Ranger model, who, on taking delivery of his brand-new pickup, spends his day deliberately punishing and dirtying it (whilst showcasing its new features).
Shot in Slovenia and charmingly put together by Academy Films' Marcus Söderlund, this rugged slice of vehicular abuse is one for the off-roaders out there.
"Our audience are the opposite of posers," comment AMV BBDO creatives David Westland and Jeremy Tribe. "They love Ranger for being tough and hard-wearing, like a battered pair of jeans. Ford were fully on board with us and the director Marcus Söderlund launching their brand-new model by scratching it, scraping it and generally giving it a real beating.”
