Live virtual comedy night in aid of Black Minds Matter UK
Don't Panic in association with Nice N' Spiky presents: a live virtual comedy night in aid of Black Minds Matter UK.
Independent creative agency Don’t Panic has teamed up with Nice N’ Spiky Comedy for A Live Virtual Comedy Night in aid of Black Minds Matter UK.
Not only is laughter a form of resistance in itself, but it is also essential for the state of our mental health during these difficult times.
Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite here.
The lineup includes exclusive performances from the fantastic Stephen K Amos, as seen on shows such as Have I Got News For You and Live At The Apollo; the original and provocative Dane Baptiste; comedian, actress, writer and presenter Thanyia Moore, plus Nathan Caton, as seen on Mock the Week and Radio 4 sitcom Can’t Tell Nathan Nothing.
All profits from the event will be donated to Black Minds Matter UK, which aims to make mental health more relevant and accessible to black communities while removing the stigma around it. Set up in June by Agnes Mwakatuma and Annie Nash, the charity seeks to connect black individuals and families with professional mental health services and resources, including up to 12 weeks of therapy.
The recent Black Lives Matter protests which took place across the world demonstrated that a show of support is desperately needed. However, the posting of black squares on #BlackOutTuesday indicated that it’s easy to take advantage of what’s important through low-risk virtue signalling. This stand up comedy event aspires to celebrate black joy and to show that laughter can also be a tool in the fight against injustice whilst raising funds for an important cause.
Don’t Panic has long believed approaching issues with humour is a great way of engaging people with difficult topics; from the BAFTA award-winning series The Revolution Will be Televised, to their ongoing work with non-profits and purpose-driven brands.
