A new campaign for the League of Legends is a vivid and stylish five-minute film to celebrate the opening of the Wild Rift Icons Global Championship.
Directed by Ross Cooper through Lucky Strike the spot features a troupe of incredible and diverse performers in an intricately designed future in which we see them unleash their wild sides.
Pandemic restrictions in China forced the cancellation of the planned live opening ceremony in a stadium for tens of thousands of fans. So, instead, League of Legends decided to pivot and create an opening ceremony film to run ahead of the live streamed event.
“Riot Games was an epic undertaking from start to finish and I’m very grateful to [directors’ agent] Johnny Foreigner that they sent it my way,” said Cooper. Olivia [Hirschberg] and Karen [James, Johnny Foreigner EPs] have a genuine appreciation of my craft and I’m looking forward to the creative challenges and opportunities on the horizon.”
“[This project is] probably the most spectacular piece of filmmaking I’ve ever been associated with,” added Hirschberg.
