To mark 40 years of finger-lickin’ good chicken in Thailand, KFC has whipped up a bold and unique recipe for its new campaign; the story of a world made of cake.
You may be aware of the US TV show Is It Cake? in which people try to tell if something is real or, well, cake, and this two-and-a-half minute spot takes that premise to the next level.
Created by Bananas Johannesburg and directed by Bruno Bossi through Carbon Films, the ad follows the bizarre journey of a man trying to navigate a Bangkok that is crumbling into cake as he races to find out if his favourite fried chicken is still fried chicken.
On that journey, his TV remote, his sofa, his scooter and even his beloved girlfriend turn to cake. The film blends quirky storytelling with stunning visuals, making it a true feast for the senses. “Creating this world was incredibly rewarding and terrifying at the same time," said Bossi. "Striking the balance of comedy, reality and total chaos while still staying true to the KFC brand world came with its challenges, but ultimately allowed us to create a unique piece of work."
“It’s a whirlwind of sugary chaos that perfectly captures the spirit of Thai people’s obsession with the taste of KFC.” added Bananas' Senior Copywriter Justin Gomes.
