Creative and directing duo Pip + Lib have helmed this new music video for JGrrey which sees a series of characters meet in a room for what, initially, seems like a counselling session.
Events soon take an unusual turn, though, as the participants start fighting as JGrrey continues to perform the melodic track, called May, which also features Kojey Radical.
"With this incredibly personal ode to JGrrey's late friend, we wanted to scoop up and put as much emotion into this film as possible," said Pip + Lib. "We want people to feel, to wince and to reflect. It was such a beautifully precious project and we fell in love with JGrrey's original idea that was delivered in a lengthy, scatty voice note in a WhatsApp group. After sitting around the kitchen table, where we birthed this safe space for ideas, thoughts and creativity, JGrrey handed their vision over to us, and we cradled it from their brain and out into the world."
The film, says the duo, is "birthed from trust and vulnerability" and attempts to channel the feelings of grief and loss into a safe, if violent space. "We spent time developing the characters and how each person was handling their grief," they add, "and we wanted to portray that through the portraits that are nestled amongst the violence scenes, we see deep breaths, vacant stares, isolation and suffocation."
