As the Christmas rush continues, Boots has unveiled its festive offering for 2022 and it stars BAFTA-nominated actress Jenna Coleman as the character of Joy.
Called Bags of Joy, the three-minute film is created by The Pharm, directed by SMUGGLER's Oscar-winning director, Tom Hooper, and aims to ignite the magic of the holiday season.
The story follows Joy as she receives a special gift from her grandmother, a bag that she discovers is magical, being bottomless and seemingly able to conjure up whatever the situation requires. Some of the gifts she retrieves from the bag are surprising, others touching, but they are always fitting to the situation and the recipient, even when that happens to be Joy herself.
As well as Coleman's BAFTA nomination and Hooper's Oscar, other members of the crew have been garlanded, with BAFTA winner Eve Stewart taking on production design, and the soundtrack, performed by a 45-piece orchestra at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, composed by Rachel Portman OBE, the first female composer to win an Academy Award.
“With so many people unable to spend the holidays with their loved ones last year, we wanted to encapsulate the pure joy that people will feel this year as we reclaim lost time," said Laurent Simon, Chief Creative Officer. "Boots is a brand baked into the fabric of British culture, and it has been an exhilarating journey to bring their Christmas campaign to life with such incredible talent behind us.”
