It's been a while since 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel - aka Gorillaz - brought their particular brand of animated mayhem to our screens, and in that time they've got up to some trouble, moved to California and... gone 3D?
Aided by the ever-steady hand of Nexus Studios’ Fx Goby, working alongside Gorillaz co-founder Jamie Hewlett, the curious quartet mark the release of their Cracker Island track by recruiting new members to join The Last Cult.
Gloriously designed by Goby, who uses subtle shading and textures to embed the distinctive characters into their new surroundings, the film's storytelling not only allows us to get reacquainted with the band but also gives us dazzling moments of flair from guest artist Thundercat.
“Gorillaz’s iconic and groundbreaking legacy hugely inspired my early animation career," explains Goby. "I was thrilled to partner with them to create this blend of live action and animation, and knew we would need the perfect balance between stylised and realistic. I couldn’t be happier with the sculpt and textures both faithful to the design but very much their own version.”.
