It's not an easy thing, making people laugh. Sure, you can tickle someone 'til they go blue or make a hilarious 'parp' noise at just the right moment during a Christening and that will get the giggles rolling, but to craft a well-honed and perfectly executed slice of comedic gold is one of the hardest things to get right in production. Much like people, some companies seem to have funny-bones - an intrinsic sense of what provokes mirth and how to exploit it.

King of the castle is Hungry Man, a company that makes merriment an art.

Founded in 1997, Hungry Man is the combined brainchild of directors Bryan Buckley and Hank Perlman. Housing some of the world's greatest commercial helmers (including Wayne McClammy, Taika Waititi, Dave Laden and many more), the company has, in the past 16 years, become the go-to shop for smart and witty short-form content. Indeed, Buckley himself is known as the "King of the Superbowl" due to the 40+ commercials he's directed for the event. With offices in New York, LA, London, Berlin, Rio and Sao Paulo, it's also safe to say that the company's worldwide output is not to be sniffed at.

Whilst in New York, we were lucky enough to catch a bit of time with Hank, Managing Partner and EP Kevin Byrne and Head of East Coast Sales Raquel Balsam to chat to us about the company ethos, the work they produce and the key to being funny!
