If there's one thing that can be gleaned by looking at his body of work, it's that Henry Scholfield does not make life easy for himself.
In this Wanda/Hamlet co-production for the track Fils de Joie, which is the Scholfield's second collaboration with Belgian singer-songwriter Stromae, the director presents a genuinely jaw-dropping state funeral (shot in Brussels, but set in an unnamed, fiction country) of a national heroine, a courtesan.
With the song itself being a tribute to sex workers and their children, the video's setting and tone is all too acute, but what really dazzles is the incredible scale at which Scholfield recreates the event; utilising 500 extras and dancers for a dazzling marriage of choreography and drone photography.
