Taking inspiration from real-life neighbourhood restaurants, john st. takes us on a tour of the local culinary scene with a mixed-animation mashup.
Featuring iconic storefronts from major metropolitan areas across Canada, a DoorDash delivery doll darts through the streets. The logos on the glass become animated, charming versions of their real-life trademarks and mainstays like Toronto’s Kinton Ramen, Montreal bistro Mandy’s, Vancouver’s Tacofino, and legendary Calgary burger joint Flipp’n Burger all get some kind of unique visual effect. The burgers come alive and dance along to a remixed version of Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, making the ad both charming and strangely hypnotic as you wonder what will come alive next.
With a campaign based around supporting local restaurants and their neighborhoods, Welcome to the Flavourhood was directed by Stevie Gee & Essy May of London’s BLINKINK. With go-to faves taking center stage, this multi-regional ad will have Canadians picking out the stores they recognize, and making a list of places to go post-pandemic.
