Five Questions from Quarantine: Leslie Harro
Leslie Harro is Partner and Executive Producer at Havoc Content, she tells us how shes keeping safe in Joshua Tree with her family, endless loops of Baby Einstein and a retro yoga DVD.
What's your self-isolation set-up at the moment?
My infant son Lincoln, our small dog Scrap-e and I are staying in my sisters guest house in Joshua Tree. My sons father, Adam, runs an essential business in Los Angeles with 100+ employees. We are grateful he is busy with work but it’s not safe for us all to be together.
Trying to keep my son healthy and happy, my business afloat and myself sane is madness. Zoom meetings with colleagues/clients are challenging but so important. On the positive side we have chickens, an on-site saloon and beautiful landscape.
It's lockdown; aside from your family, which four people, past or present, would you most like to be quarantined with?
Definitely Anthony Bordain. I imagine beautiful meals, in depth conversation about the world and daily magical cocktails made from something grown on the land.
Elon Musk, I need someone much smarter than me with crazy ambition looking for solutions during this pandemic.
I know it's not supposed to be family, but My grandmother grew up during the Great Depression and The Dust Bowl. She used to talk to me about her experiences. They survived with so much less than we have now. I am keeping her wisdom, strength and no-nonsense attitude close. She taught me to let go of things that were not meant for me. Doing a lot of this right now.
The nanny, am I allowed to say this? We miss the nanny, a lot. Ha!
We need entertainment, what's your favorite short film?
The only entertainment we have is Baby Einstein on loop. I’m not sure what they put in those videos, but it’s helping us get through.
Please no judgement. I have so much respect for single moms now.
You've completed Netflix. And Amazon Prime. And Disney+. It's on the hard stuff; board games. What do you pick and why?
Honestly I don’t have the time or anyone to play a game with at the moment but I did find an old yoga DVD.
It’s 45 minutes just for me while the baby naps. It’s definitely helping me stay somewhat balanced during this craziness.
On a serious note, how do you think this situation will impact you individually, and the industry as a whole?
It has given me a simplified mindset. Personally, I’m less wasteful. Time is the most valuable gift we’ve been given. Doing my best to use it wisely, even if that is resting with the baby. With our food, we aren’t tossing an over ripe banana or avocado.
Once live-action picks up. I believe it’s going to be smaller crews, minimal travel and less people on set.
In business the current question is how can we service our clients/brands. The solution has to be lean and creative. Is it re-editing a previous campaign, producing an animation spot or having one of my directors shoot and edit something from their home. I believe we will continue with this thinking. Once live-action picks up. I believe it’s going to be smaller crews, minimal travel and less people on set.
Hopefully this will help keep our resources from being exhausted and lower the footprint on the planet. This is happening for a reason and I want Havoc to be a part of the solution and not a continuation of the problem.
