Five Questions from Quarantine: Anne van Kuijk
The Amsterdam-based Cake Film & Photography producer gives us an insight into self-isolating in an unfurnished home, eschews shorts but loves a bit of Larry and has strict rules when it comes to Uno.
What's your self-isolation set-up at the moment?
We are moving houses.
I am staying in the new house without a kitchen, very handy, with one of our two children.
We have set up an office like workspace for homeschooling and working.
We've only had a working internet connection for two days, so now we hang in Google Hangout all the time with our Cake Film office colleagues.
The other child, with my partner, works from the old house.
It's lockdown; aside from your family, which four people, past or present, would you most like to be quarantined with?
Haha, that is a secret.
We need entertainment, what's your favourite short film?
No short films for me but do series count?
Curb your Enthusiasm is 100 episodes of pure entertainment.
Series 10 has just been released on HBO.
You've completed Netflix. And Amazon Prime. And Disney+. It's on the hard stuff; board games. What do you pick and why?
I am way too busy to be on Netflix all day unfortunately.
My favourite games are: 30 Seconds, Scrabble (but not too long), and Uno... with very strict rules.
On a serious note, how do you think this situation will impact you individually, and the industry as a whole?
This all depends on how the economy will evolve, if the governments will indeed keep their promise and help where needed, we might be able to slowly restart - post corona.
Shoots will be different, traveling to other countries will remain difficult for a longer period and people will remain scared to work in groups (crews).
We, with Cake Film, are developing a safe way for foreign clients to still be able to shoot in Amsterdam.
Today we are having a Zoom meeting with some Dutch producers about the future and how we can keep working and producing in these hard times.
