Directed by ProdCo’s Leigh Powis the film Volem La Pilota (We Want the Ball) is a photographic triumph.

Powis and DP Norm Li – using additional photography from Jack Exton and Chuck Owens – have crafted a gorgeous blend of artful monochrome and sharp colours – “the electric green of the grass” – refracted images and rousing match footage, that capture the essence of Barça’s history and drama.

The poetic script, written by David Carabén, references Barcelona itself, “your city in a single breath,” along with elements of Catalan cultural identity, the deep emotional connection between the club and generations of fans and the Club's ethos on collective effort, balance, and harmony, rather individual brilliance.

Throughout the film, the ball takes centre stage, connecting fans, players, and – referencing the Catalan ethos of doing things their own way, the film features Barça’s iconic 'rondo' drills, a testament to their commitment to a distinctive style of play. Club icons appear – from current players, past legends, former presidents and, to conclude, there's a special appearance by the legend that is Lionel Messi, bringing the story full circle.
