Eleanor celebrates director Chris Chuky’s addition to the UK roster.
Drawn to high drama, emotive performances and elaborate production design, Chuky’s cinematic poetry evokes a romantic, vintage flair, while daring to delve into turbulent storylines.
Winner of the BMW Filmmaking Challenge, in partnership with the BFI and mentored by Michaela Coel, his subversive two-minute short film, Blades, challenges audiences’ preconceptions with a remarkable twist.
While much of Chuky’s portfolio explores theatrical, emotional narratives, his gift for satire shines in Yodel Rap, a Channel 4 X Domino’s mockumentary following the rise of The Yodel Boiz, a fictional drill music group influenced by yodeling.
Chuky most recently worked with Jack Daniel’s and polymath musical artist Wesley Joseph for a campaign developed by creative agency Iris. The first of two 30" films for the global whiskey brand goes live on Tuesday 18th April and explores Joseph's perspective as a musician and what it means to ‘make it count’ in the music industry.
The films were shot on location at Brutalist icons Barbican and Trellick Tower. “Chris and Eleanor were a dream to work with on this JD x Wesley Joseph collab,” says Iris ECD Grant Hunter. “Their agility, craft and collaborative nature were second to none.”
