Award-winning director Nicholas Lam, known for his dynamic, emotional and cinematic visual style, joins the Hound Content commercials roster for US and UK representation.

Lam is an international director whose global and cultural sensitivity grew from his formative years living in Hong Kong and Hawaii, though now calling Los Angeles home. With his sights originally set on becoming a children’s author and illustrator, he credits video classes in high school that ultimately turned him onto filmmaking. He has created work for Dewars, Kia, Nestle, P&G, Google and Disney as well as some of the biggest names in the recording industry, including Blink-182, Nick Jonas and Jess Glynne, with a recent video for K-pop sensation Monsta X earning an MTV VMA nomination.

Dramatic narrative has always been in my blood

“Dramatic narrative has always been in my blood,” says Lam. “My life has been a wildly unorthodox, untamed journey where I’ve existed on both ends of the literal and proverbial spectrum. Through it all, I’ve developed equally unorthodox sensibilities: keen emotional intelligence, a penchant for risk-taking, a hint of irreverence and the sweeping power of human empathy, elements that hopefully resonate in my work."

The announcement comes on the back of Lam’s latest campaign for Samsung Galaxy, shot on location in Southeast Asia. "It was a fun challenge for both Nicholas and the nimble production team; figuring out how to deliver un-compromised, cinematic films while navigating rapidly changing local Covid restrictions, as well as extremely unpredictable weather conditions. The campaign has the hallmark of the grounded, character-driven stories that Nicholas most enjoys exploring in his work,” said Hound partner and executive producer, Jamie Miller.

Adds Lam, “I’m thrilled to expand my presence under the Hound family umbrella.”
