Director Matt Smukler joins Snapper Films for commercial representation in the UK.
When asked ‘Why Advertising?’, he responds,"'Blending art and commerce is not easy, but when done well, it’s magical. I’m obsessed with doing it well." His vast success in the arena indicates that he knows exactly how to make that magic.
Smukler is a remarkably talented, established commercial director. He has worked on campaigns for the biggest brands in the business, including McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, and Telekom, to name but a few. He has had his work featured at the Superbowl, won two silver lions, been nominated for an Emmy, and his debut feature film Wildflower premiered at Tiff (Toronto International Film Festival). The list goes on. No doubt, the ingredient to such success is the captivating honesty imbued in all his work. His highly emotive films encourage empathy which (in Snapper’s view) is the fundamental purpose of storytelling.
His debut feature film Wildflower will be released on the 17th March by Momentum pictures. Wildflower is a coming-of-age comedy-drama inspired by a true story. The feature follows Bea, a high school student navigating life with two neurodivergent parents as she seeks an independent life. It is bursting with joy, humour and originality. Smukler unearths extraordinary performances from an all-star ensemble, including captivating performances from Jean Smart (Hacks) and Kieran Shipka (Mad Men).
When asked what he is most excited about in the UK market, Smukler says that It is "The English Sense of Humour." He says that "In another life, I happen to know, for a fact, I was English." Snapper are very excited to welcome Matt to the team, they cannot wait to bring the life-affirming force of his films and his brilliant instinct for nuanced comedy into the UK market.
