Production company Dark Energyhave signed multi-faceted creative talent, Shimmy Ahmed to their roster for UK representation.

The London based Director/DJ first found herself on set aged 7, working as an extra on feature films. It was here that Ahmed first became curious about a career in film and went on to study Art History and Media, and has since held a variety of positions across the film industry.

After producing some of the most loved and watched music video’s by artist such as FKA Twigs, Blood Orange and Disclosure, and working at ELLE UK as a content director across ELLE TV, full time directing was only a matter of time.

Ahmed has developed an on-set charm and thoughtfulness that helps get the the best out of those in-front of the lens. Having been in-front of the lens herself, she understands the sensitivity and energy required to get the best out of a subject, whether that be an intimate piece on a shy artist or directing a chorus of children and teens, Ahmed’s energy and flexibility is an asset to any/all sets.

Ahmed’s work is filled with the same passion and personality that is evident off the screen and she injects an accessible but dark humour into her projects, whether they’re for fashion, retail brands or beauty.  Ahmed has an ability to extract authentic performances from people, regardless of whether they’re A-listers/actors and/or “real” people.

I want my work to resonate with audiences and to interpret the clients’ brief in a visual style that elevates those human moments.  My humour has a dark edge but is steeped in reality, a sort of absurdity that people can relate to

Dark Energy EP, Anna Allgrove comments, ‘Shimmy’s work speaks for itself but what we saw in her was a spark, an energy with which she clearly attacks each brief, grabbing opportunities and trying to get the very best end result for her clients. She lives and breathes this stuff, whether its film-making, her radio show or DJing, Shimmy has a drive that feels unstoppable and we’re grateful to be along for the ride!’

‘Her fashion films lack the pretence that so many can have. They’re injected with personality and a lightness, whilst still showing the very best of the brand.  Whether it’s her content work for Guardian Labs, her films with Alexa Chung or her hilarious work for Sloggi, there’s a tonality that sets Shimmy apart.’

Dark Energy Founder/MD, Matt Brown adds, ‘Shimmy is a real talent and we’re really excited to be collaborating with her on the next stage of her journey.’

In addition to her commercials career, Ahmed has several long form projects in development.  Her short film Wait, written and directed herself, was included in the official Raindance film festival line-up in the “Lost Sensations” category and she is currently developing her first feature, which is based on her experience as a first generation British Pakistani.

Ahmed has collaborated with a plethora of well-known brands and artists, including Vogue, Christian Dior, Adidas, Dazed & Confused, Made.com, FKA Twigs, Giggs, Blood Orange and King Krule.
