Creative Circle Awards 2013

Thursday 14th March saw Creative Circle CEO Jeremy Green and his team of judges and fellow Circlers hand out their annual awards at a glittering ceremony in Camden's Roundhouse (a venue more familiar to music aficionados than the AdLand elite).

The evening, introduced by CC President Ed Morris and presented by radio/TV star Edith Bowman, saw numerous creative UK press, poster, radio, integrated, experiential and TV campaigns grab gongs in their respective fields. Amongst the more rewarded works were Tom Tagholm's remarkable 'Meet The Superhumans' film for 4creative's Paralympics coverage and the impressive 'Don't Cover Up' for Refuse by BBH, which saw online make-up star Lauren Luke use her popularity amongst female viewers to pass on an important message.

Another special moment of the event was the presentation of the President's Award, chosen solely by Ed Morris, to Crispin Porter + Bogusky London ECDs Ben Walker & Matt Gooden. Taking to the stage in full rockstar style, Ben and Matt were backed by a montage of some of their greatest work, including Honda 'Cog' and "Saturday Is Breakfast Day" for Lurpak.

However, the heart-warming highlight of the evening came when Ed Morris, chatting to the audience in his unassuming, likeable fashion, mentioned that a couple of the students who had journeyed down from Sunderland specifically for the event had caught his eye on Twitter after their bold claim of writing a new portfolio on the Megabus drive. The pair, Marc Rayson and Callum Prior, were asked to join Morris on the stage, had a quick chat and were then 'auctioned off' for placements at some of the nation's biggest agencies. We caught up with Marc and this was his reaction: "It was all mental. It still hasn't sunk in yet. Throughout the night and the next day we received six placement offers, one of them by Matt Gooden, ECD at CP+B, who went on to win the President's award. This sort of thing just doesn't happen. Ever."

The touching moment marked the end of a well-considered and impressive ceremony and exemplified the Creative Circle's devotion to encouraging the next generation of advertising superstars.
